The secret to change an unwanted mental state you’re in
The first step is always of acceptance. Accept everything and surrender to the moment, or the task at hand. The state will change by itself. But when you try to fix the state directly is when the state perpetuates itself. When it becomes your obsession is when you fall into its loop deeper and deeper.
But you can get out of it any moment. How? Drop the desire to change anything and relaxedly focus on the task in the moment. In this sense, the task becomes your saver. It helps you enter the moment, the only “place” where you are free of the grip of the mind.
The thing that often tricks us into fixing our mental state is that sometimes we successfully changed a physical state and felt better. For example, eating when we feel hungry or taking medication to relieve pain. So, we try to do the same with undesired mental state and get deeper into its ditch.
Acceptance is the first step to toward a desired state. Osho said: “Total acceptance is the key. It is the master key… It opens all the doors. There is no lock that cannot be opened by it.” (I love this quote so much that you may see it somewhere else in other articles of mine.)
When we accept the state as if it’s no longer an issue, the state starts to change in a subtle way. It’s the fresh energy of the present that changes the energy of the mental pattern. And overtime, the new energy takes place. To maintain the clear state of mind then, you will need to focus on something that helps you stay in the moment.
